I’m a filmmaker.

Hello! It’s nice to meet you. I’m Sam. Sometimes people call me Samuel, because it sounds fancy and/or biblical, and sometimes people call me Samuel Spahn, because the alliteration just rolls off the tongue.

I’m a jack-of-all-trades filmmaker with experience in writing, directing, editing, and at least a day or two doing just about every other job in production. I believe that making a movie is best when it’s an adventure, and I am happiest when I’m on a set or in an editing bay that takes me to places I never expected to be. Over the last several years, I’ve had the great luck of working with some spectacular and talented people on passion projects and random gigs alike, for clients including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Paramount Pictures.

I was born and raised outside Columbus, Ohio, I’m a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois (go ‘Cats), and now I call Los Angeles, California home. When I’m not at work, you can find me eating at Canter’s Deli at strange hours, on a hike or otherwise enjoying nature, refinishing old furniture, or reading a book. Probably smelling the inside of the book, too, but you won’t see that in public.

Take a look around this site for some of my work and the stories behind it. Whether you’re in the audience or you’re looking for a partner in storytelling, it’s great to have you here.

My resumé is available upon request. I will buy you lunch if you know what the formula in the website footer means.

Peace,

Sam
