A unique combination of narrative drama, documentary, and hoax (which ended up being fairly convincing, at least for a couple of episodes at the time of release). We were inspired by old wax cylinder recordings of folk songs and hymns, radio sermons, and the turn-of-the-century tension between new technology and religious revival, as well as the simple pleasure of writing period dialogue. Over the course of a year, we recorded each episode with an expanding and eclectic cast, telling stories of loneliness, fate, fear, redemption, and love. (You can see why this was incredibly easy to categorize as a “comedy” podcast.) To this day it is one of the strangest projects I’ve ever been involved with, and I would not trade the experience for anything.
